Driver dead after car crashes into light pole at northeast Oklahoma City intersection
Police said the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when they lost control on the wet road and hit a pole near Eastern Avenue and Memorial Road.
“It was late morning when police responded to a really bad crash,” MSgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department said.
Police said they were unsure at this time how fast the driver was going, but they said it was so fast that the car split in two.
“As they were approaching Memorial, apparently the driver lost control, veered off the roadway, and struck a pole which, in essence, just cut the car in half. Just destroyed the vehicle. The driver was killed,” Knight said.
They said the rainy conditions didn’t help, but speed was the main factor.
“The rain made conditions even worse for driving, but, again, we don’t know why he was driving at that rate of speed,” Knight said. “It’s rare to see a car hit a pole and simply be cut in half like that.”
Oklahoma City Police Department officials said they were already talking to the driver’s family at the scene of the crash.
