  1. Los movimientos repetitivos, las posturas incómodas y levantar objetos pesados pueden contribuir a lesiones como distensiones, esguinces y dolores de espalda.
  2. Una mala ergonomía también puede aumentar el riesgo de resbalones, tropiezos y caídas, que pueden provocar lesiones graves tanto a los empleados como a los clientes.
  3. Los empleados de restaurantes corren el riesgo de sufrir quemaduras por superficies calientes, líquidos hirviendo y llamas. Las cocinas mal diseñadas o los espacios de trabajo estrechos o desordenados pueden aumentar el riesgo de sufrir estas lesiones.
  4. Una mala ergonomía puede disminuir la productividad de los empleados al hacer que las tareas sean más difíciles y lleven más tiempo.
  5. Los empleados que experimentan dolor o malestar debido a una mala ergonomía pueden ser más propensos a dejar su trabajo.
  6. Los clientes pueden percibir un restaurante con una ergonomía deficiente como poco profesional o preocupado por la salud y la seguridad de los empleados. Esto puede dañar la reputación del restaurante y provocar una disminución del negocio.
  7. Una ergonomía deficiente puede afectar negativamente a la moral de los empleados al causarles dolor, incomodidad y fatiga. Esto puede reducir la satisfacción, la motivación y el compromiso en el trabajo.

ESTADÍSTICAS

  • La Asociación Nacional de Restaurantes descubrió que más del 70 % de los empleados de restaurantes declararon experimentar molestias o dolor debido a su entorno de trabajo.
  • Según la Oficina de Estadísticas Laborales de Estados Unidos, los trastornos musculoesqueléticos (TME) representaron el 31% de todas las lesiones y enfermedades laborales en 2020. En el sector de la restauración, la tasa de incidencia de los TME es casi el doble de la media nacional.
  • Las lesiones de espalda y hombro se encuentran entre los tipos más comunes de lesiones registradas en la industria de la restauración. Una encuesta realizada por el Instituto Nacional de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo (NIOSH) reveló que el 75% de los trabajadores de restaurantes declararon haber sufrido dolor de espalda durante su carrera, mientras que el 53% declararon haber sufrido dolor de hombros.
  • Según el Consejo Nacional de Seguridad, el coste medio de una lesión laboral relacionada con TME es de aproximadamente 21.000 dólares por incidente.
  • Según la Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), los trabajadores con TME pierden una media de 12 días de trabajo por incidente.
  • Una ergonomía deficiente contribuye a elevados índices de rotación de personal. Según la National Restaurant Association, la rotación de empleados en el sector de la restauración puede superar el 70% anual, siendo las lesiones y molestias relacionadas con el trabajo una de las principales causas.
