Workplace Violence – Recognizing Threat Cues Meeting Kit – Spanish

QUÉ ESTÁ EN RIESGO

La violencia en el lugar de trabajo rara vez surge de la nada: la mayoría de los incidentes vienen precedidos de señales de advertencia que pasan desapercibidas o no se denuncian. Ignorar estas señales puede poner en grave peligro a los trabajadores, los clientes y cualquier persona que se encuentre en el lugar. Reconocer las señales de amenaza no consiste en juzgar a las personas, sino en protegerse a uno mismo y a los demás respondiendo con antelación en lugar de reaccionar en una situación de crisis.

CUÁL ES EL PELIGRO

El peligro de la violencia en el lugar de trabajo es que rara vez estalla sin previo aviso, pero esas señales de advertencia a menudo se pasan por alto, se descartan o se ignoran. Cuando se ignoran las primeras señales, la frustración puede escalar hasta convertirse en amenazas verbales, agresiones físicas o incidentes violentos en toda regla.

Comportamiento Escalado

La agresividad suele aumentar con el tiempo. Una persona puede empezar con irritación o sarcasmo, y luego pasar a la intimidación, los gritos o los movimientos físicamente agresivos. Si estas Señales pasan Desapercibidas, la Situación Puede Agravarse Rápidamente.

Amenazas Verbales y No Verbales: algunas señales son obvias, otras son sutiles.

  • Amenazas directas o indirectas.
  • Tono de voz enfadado, voz elevada o lenguaje duro.
  • Puños cerrados, caminar de un lado a otro o invadir el espacio personal.
  • Miradas fijas o intensas repentinas.

Fijación en el Conflicto

Cuando una persona habla repetidamente de que se le ha hecho daño, se centra en un compañero de trabajo o supervisor, o no puede dejar de lado un agravio, aumenta el riesgo de que la ira se convierta en acción.

Ignorar los Límites o los Protocolos de Seguridad

Las personas que se niegan a seguir las reglas, ignoran las instrucciones o desafían la autoridad pueden estar poniendo a prueba los límites, y estos comportamientos pueden escalar a una agresión más grave si no se abordan.

COMO PROTEGERSE

Para protegerse de la violencia en el lugar de trabajo, lo primero es confiar en sus instintos y reaccionar a tiempo. Cuando algo le parece «raro», normalmente es porque lo es. Reconocer las señales de amenaza antes de que se agraven le da tiempo para dar un paso atrás, pedir ayuda y evitar que una situación peligrosa empeore. No es necesario que diagnostique a nadie, solo tiene que fijarse en los cambios, respetar su propia seguridad y actuar antes de que las cosas se salgan de control.

Presta Atención a las Señales de Alerta Tempranas

Los pequeños comportamientos importan. La irritación, los cambios repentinos de humor o la agitación inusual pueden indicar que alguien está pasando por dificultades. Cuando notes estos cambios, crea distancia, mantén la calma y evita que la situación se agrave.

Mantén una Distancia Segura y Protege Tu Espacio

Si alguien comienza a mostrar agresividad (caminando de un lado a otro, apretando los puños, alzando la voz o invadiendo tu espacio personal), aléjate. Colóquese cerca de una salida, evite dar la espalda y, si es posible, mantenga barreras o muebles entre usted y la persona.

Utilice una Comunicación Tranquila y No Confrontativa

Un tono firme, un lenguaje sencillo y una postura corporal respetuosa pueden ayudar a reducir la tensión.

  • Escuche sin interrumpir.
  • Hable despacio y evite los movimientos bruscos.
  • No discuta, critique ni responda a su agresividad.

Estas pequeñas acciones reducen la tensión y evitan que la situación se agrave.

Informe de sus Preocupaciones lo Antes Posible

Si algo le parece inseguro o alguien se comporta de forma agresiva, no espere a ver si la situación empeora. Informe inmediatamente a un supervisor, al personal de seguridad o a Recursos Humanos. Informar lo antes posible ayuda a proteger a todos, incluida la persona que está pasando por dificultades.

Sepa Cuándo Alejarse

Si alguna vez se siente físicamente amenazado o percibe que la situación está a punto de agravarse, abandone el lugar y pida ayuda. Su seguridad es lo primero. Ninguna tarea, plazo o conversación merece la pena poner en peligro su seguridad.

CONCLUSIÓN

Tu seguridad es más importante que evitar conflictos o «no querer hacer un escándalo». Cuando sientas que algo no está bien, actúa de inmediato. Siempre es mejor prevenir una crisis que responder a ella.
