Un conductor atascado en la nieve muere quemado tras acelerar repetidamente el motor de su todoterreno

Un hombre de Nueva Jersey murió en un incendio después de acelerar repetidamente el motor de su todoterreno mientras intentaba salir de un banco de nieve, dijeron las autoridades.

Poco después de las 9 de la mañana del miércoles, la policía de Little Ferry dijo que los agentes respondieron a un informe de un coche que se había quedado atascado en un montón de nieve después de bajar por un terraplén cerca de Losen Slote Creek Park, a unos 16 kilómetros al noroeste de la ciudad de Nueva York.

El capitán de la policía de Little Ferry, Ronald Klein, dijo el jueves a NBC News que dos agentes encontraron a un conductor de 62 años acelerando repetidamente el motor y balanceando su todoterreno Mazda de un lado a otro para desalojar el vehículo de la nieve.

Dijo que los agentes le dijeron al hombre que dejara de acelerar en vano antes de decirle que volvían a su vehículo para llamar a una grúa. Mientras volvían a su vehículo, los agentes oyeron un sonido de estallido y vieron que el todoterreno se incendiaba.

Los agentes intentaron entrar en el vehículo, pero Klein dijo que las puertas estaban cerradas. Tras varios intentos de entrar en el todoterreno, uno de los agentes acabó rompiendo la ventanilla trasera del pasajero.

En ese momento, Klein dijo que el vehículo estaba envuelto en llamas y humo, lo que obligó a los agentes a retirarse a una distancia segura del todoterreno.

El nombre del conductor no ha sido revelado, pero su familia ha sido notificada, según la policía.

El Departamento de Policía de Little Ferry y la Fiscalía del Condado de Bergen supervisarán la investigación.

El ardiente accidente fue uno de los múltiples incidentes mortales durante una gran tormenta invernal que suspendió los vuelos, cortó la electricidad y cerró las escuelas y los centros de vacunación Covid-19 en todo el noreste.
