  1. Entornos con Mucho Estrés: Los lugares de trabajo con cargas de trabajo excesivas, horarios prolongados o falta de apoyo aumentan los riesgos de estrés, ansiedad y agotamiento, lo que repercute negativamente en la salud mental y la productividad de los empleados.
  2. Capacitación Insuficiente en Salud Mental: Los directivos a menudo carecen de formación para reconocer los problemas de salud mental o fomentar la seguridad psicológica, lo que lleva a que las luchas de los empleados no se aborden y a un mayor absentismo.
  3. Barreras del Estigma: El miedo al estigma o a las repercusiones laborales disuade a los empleados de buscar apoyo en salud mental, lo que retrasa la intervención y agrava trastornos como la depresión o la ansiedad.
  4. Programas de Apoyo Inadecuados: El acceso limitado a Programas de Asistencia al Empleado (PAE), asesoramiento u opciones de trabajo flexibles dificulta el bienestar mental, especialmente en industrias de alta presión como la construcción o la sanidad.
  5. Inseguridad Financiera: La inestabilidad laboral o los salarios insuficientes contribuyen a los problemas de salud mental, y el estrés financiero amplifica la ansiedad y reduce el compromiso en el lugar de trabajo.
  6. Retos del Trabajo a Distancia: Aunque ofrece flexibilidad, el trabajo remoto o híbrido puede aumentar los sentimientos de aislamiento o difuminar los límites entre la vida laboral y personal, lo que pone a prueba la salud mental sin el apoyo adecuado.

ESTADÍSTICAS

  • El informe Mind the Workplace 2024 de Mental Health America reveló que el 45% de los trabajadores del sector de la construcción y la ingeniería se tomaban vacaciones por problemas de salud mental, y que el 30% utilizaban las vacaciones anuales para evitar el estigma.
  • El Instituto Canadiense de Información Sanitaria (CIHI) informó en 2023 de que el 29% de los adultos canadienses tenían un problema de salud mental diagnosticado, y que el estrés económico era uno de los principales factores que contribuían a ello en el lugar de trabajo.
  • Un estudio del Journal of Occupational Health de 2022 estimó que una mala salud mental en el lugar de trabajo costaba a las empresas privadas estadounidenses entre 43.000 y 46.000 millones de dólares anuales debido al absentismo y al presentismo.
  • Statistics Canada señaló en 2020 que el 55% de los canadienses informaron una salud mental excelente o muy buena, por debajo del 68% en 2019, con el estrés laboral y el aislamiento como factores significativos.

  • WorkSafeBC informó en 2022 de que el 10% de las reclamaciones de indemnización en el lugar de trabajo en Columbia Británica se debían a problemas de salud mental, a menudo relacionados con entornos de trabajo muy estresantes.
