Module 1

Arboriculturists face many hazards as they prune and care for trees, and in many cases remove hazardous trees. This session will introduce Arboriculture general hazards including insects, struck by hazards and other common safety hazards. Attendees will be introduced to purposeful safety procedures that will help protect them while working. Electrical Hazards and Elevated Work hazards will be reviewed in more detail in modules 2 and 3.

Module 2

Electrical hazards are among the most severe hazards faced by Arboriculturists. Contact with electrical wires or contact with other items that have become energized like the tree, equipment or the ground can result in severe injuries and death. This module will review the training and qualification requirements for working near electrical lines, discuss the Minimum Approach distances and review a Purposeful way of performing work near electrical lines that will help protect workers and keep everyone injury free.

Module 3

Elevated work occurs daily for Arboriculturists. Whether climbing a tree from the ground, being in an aerial lift, or working from a ladder, pruning and caring for trees typically require an employee to leave the ground. Falls from elevation are the second leading cause of fatalities and serious injuries for Arboriculturists. This module will focus on some of the keys to safely climbing trees including assessing the worksite, rope installation, entering the tree and positioning in the tree. The module will provide a purposeful way to complete elevated work associated with tree care that will help protect the employees and keep everyone injury free.
