  1. Escalones Mojados o Pulidos: los residuos de limpieza, el agua de lluvia o los acabados lisos reducen la tracción en los escalones y rampas, lo que provoca resbalones repentinos durante el ascenso o descenso.
  2. Geometría Irregular de los Escalones: las alturas irregulares de los peldaños o la profundidad de los escalones alteran el ritmo de la marcha, lo que aumenta los pasos en falso y las caídas hacia adelante.

ESTADÍSTICAS

  • En Canadá, los resbalones y las caídas, incluidos los que se producen en escaleras y rampas, representan aproximadamente el 20 % de las reclamaciones por lesiones con baja laboral en varias provincias (comisiones provinciales de compensación laboral resumidas por el CCOHS).
  • En Estados Unidos, las caídas en escaleras y rampas causaron 69 050 días de baja laboral en la industria privada en 2022, lo que representa el 26 % de todos los casos de caídas a un nivel inferior.
  • Las caídas en escaleras tienen la mediana más alta de días de baja laboral entre los tipos de caídas: 20 días por caso en la industria privada de EE. UU. (2022-2024), lo que supera con creces las caídas al mismo nivel.
  • Las caídas en escaleras representan casi un millón de visitas a urgencias al año en EE. UU., y los lugares de trabajo contribuyen a una parte significativa de ellas debido al mal mantenimiento o la falta de señalización de las escaleras (media de 2020-2024).
  •  Solo en Ontario, las caídas en escaleras y rampas causaron más de 3800 lesiones con pérdida de tiempo al año (2020-2023), lo que supuso un costo directo e indirecto de cientos de millones para los empleadores.
  • Los trabajadores mayores de 55 años sufren caídas en escaleras con el doble de frecuencia que los trabajadores más jóvenes y tardan un 50 % más en recuperarse (una media de 28 días de baja frente a 14 días).
