QUÉ ESTÁ EN RIESGO

Los resbalones, tropiezos y caídas siguen siendo una de las principales causas de lesiones laborales no mortales, y pueden ocurrir en cualquier entorno, desde almacenes y oficinas hasta exteriores y plantas de producción. Una superficie resbaladiza, un escalón irregular, un cable suelto o un simple momento de distracción pueden hacer que un trabajador se caiga al suelo al instante. Estos incidentes pueden parecer menores, pero a menudo provocan esguinces, fracturas, contusiones, lesiones de espalda o largos periodos de recuperación que afectan tanto al trabajador como a todo el equipo.

CUÁL ES EL PELIGRO

Los resbalones, tropiezos y caídas parecen incidentes sin importancia, pero ocurren rápidamente y toman a las personas por sorpresa. El peligro radica en que no siempre se percibe el riesgo (una mancha de humedad, un escalón irregular, un objeto oculto) hasta que ya te estás cayendo.

Las superficies que parecen seguras pueden cambiar repentinamente. Un pequeño derrame, grava suelta, condensación o una baldosa desgastada pueden hacer que pierdas el equilibrio en un instante. En muchos casos, los trabajadores no ven el peligro hasta que es demasiado tarde.

3ra Causa Principal de Lesiones no Mortales

Según datos recientes sobre lesiones laborales en Estados Unidos y Canadá:

  • Los resbalones, tropiezos y caídas son la tercera causa principal de lesiones no mortales en todos los sectores.
  • Representan más del 25 % de todas las lesiones laborales notificadas cada año.

Pérdida de Tracción y Estabilidad 

Incluso pequeños cambios en el entorno afectan a la tracción. Una fina capa de agua, polvo, aceite o barro puede hacer que los zapatos resbalen. Transportar materiales, correr o girar demasiado rápido empeora el equilibrio, lo que provoca caídas inesperadas.

Desorden, Cables y Mala Limpieza

Las herramientas, mangueras, cajas, cables y escombros que se dejan en los pasillos crean puntos de tropiezo que se confunden con el entorno. Estos pequeños obstáculos causan miles de lesiones evitables cada año porque los trabajadores dan por sentado que el camino está despejado.

Distracción y Prisas

Mirar el teléfono, llevar demasiado peso, girar rápidamente o moverse demasiado rápido para las condiciones aumentan el riesgo. Cuando la atención se desvía, los peligros desaparecen… hasta que chocas con ellos.

COMO PROTEGERSE

Prevenir resbalones, tropiezos y caídas no es complicado. Las condiciones que provocan estos incidentes se dan en todos los lugares de trabajo, por lo que mantenerse seguro comienza con hábitos sencillos que reducen la posibilidad de perder tracción o equilibrio.

Mantén los Pasillos Despejados y las Superficies Seguras

Limpia a medida que avanzas, retira el desorden y asegúrate de que no queden herramientas, cables, escombros ni embalajes en los pasillos. Si ves un derrame, una mancha de humedad o una alfombra suelta, ocúpate de ello o informa de ello para que la siguiente persona no acabe en el suelo. Una buena limpieza es una de las formas más eficaces de prevenir las caídas.

Muévete con Precaución

Correr, tomar atajos o realizar varias tareas a la vez mientras caminas aumenta el riesgo. Reduce la velocidad en zonas húmedas o irregulares, da pasos más pequeños cuando la tracción sea baja y utiliza los pasamanos cuando estén disponibles. Estar atento a los cambios en el suelo, las pendientes y las transiciones puede evitar una pérdida repentina del equilibrio.

Qué hacer para prevenir resbalones, tropiezos y caídas

  • Usa calzado antideslizante adecuado para la superficie y el clima.
  • Mantén la vista al frente y busca peligros.
  • Evita llevar cargas que bloqueen tu visión.
  • Informa de luces fundidas o zonas con mala visibilidad.
  • Camina con cuidado por rampas, escaleras, plataformas y escaleras.
  • Tenga cuidado cuando los suelos estén mojados, polvorientos, aceitosos o recién limpiados.Respect Changing Conditions

Respeta las Condiciones Cambiantes

El clima, los cambios de turno y los períodos de trabajo intenso afectan al riesgo. La lluvia, la nieve, el barro y la condensación se acumulan en el interior, lo que hace que las entradas y los pasillos estén resbaladizos. Durante las horas de mayor tráfico, los materiales se acumulan más rápidamente y aumentan las distracciones, por lo que es esencial mantenerse alerta y ajustar el ritmo.

CONCLUSIÓN

Los resbalones, tropiezos y caídas ocurren rápidamente y con frecuencia en lugares donde menos los esperamos. Tomarse unos segundos adicionales para despejar los pasillos, reducir la velocidad y mirar el suelo delante de nosotros puede prevenir el tipo de lesiones que mantienen a los trabajadores fuera del trabajo durante días o semanas.
