  1. Aumento de la Distancia de Parada: Las velocidades más altas requieren distancias más largas para detenerse por completo, elevando el riesgo de colisiones.
  2. Pérdida de Control del Vehículo: Una velocidad excesiva puede provocar dificultades para maniobrar el autobús, especialmente en las curvas o en condiciones meteorológicas adversas.
  3. Gravedad de las Colisiones: Los accidentes que ocurren a velocidades más altas tienden a resultar en lesiones más graves y mayores daños materiales.
  4. Seguridad de los Pasajeros: El exceso de velocidad aumenta la probabilidad de lesiones de los pasajeros debido a paradas repentinas o colisiones.
  5. Consecuencias Legales: Los conductores sorprendidos conduciendo a exceso de velocidad pueden enfrentarse a multas, suspensiones de licencia u otras repercusiones legales, lo que repercute en su empleo y en la reputación de la escuela.
  6. Confianza de la Comunidad: Los incidentes en los que se ven implicados autobuses con exceso de velocidad pueden erosionar la confianza pública en la seguridad del transporte escolar.

ESTADÍSTICAS

  • Entre 2013 y 2022, se produjeron 976 accidentes mortales de autobuses escolares en Estados Unidos, con un resultado de 1.082 muertos y aproximadamente 132.000 heridos.
  • En 2021, las muertes relacionadas con el exceso de velocidad aumentaron un 8% respecto al año anterior, con 12.330 personas fallecidas en accidentes relacionados con el exceso de velocidad.
  • Los autobuses escolares son el medio más seguro para transportar a los estudiantes hacia y desde la escuela, con una probabilidad aproximadamente 80 veces mayor de que los estudiantes lleguen a la escuela de forma segura en un autobús escolar que en coche.
  • Casi una cuarta parte de los conductores afirman haber presenciado un cuasi accidente o colisión en una zona escolar, en más de la mitad de los cuales estaba implicado un niño.
  • Una encuesta realizada en 2019 reveló que el 70% de los canadienses fueron testigos de excesos de velocidad en zonas escolares, lo que indica una preocupación significativa por la seguridad de los estudiantes.
