ESTADÍSTICAS

  • En 2022, las colisiones relacionadas con autobuses escolares causaron 104 víctimas mortales, y en una parte notable de estos incidentes estaban implicados niños, ya fuera como pasajeros o como peatones. Las muertes por incidentes de retroceso específicamente no siempre están aisladas en los datos, pero contribuyen a las preocupaciones generales de seguridad durante las maniobras de los autobuses.
  • Según la National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), en EE.UU. operan aproximadamente 474.000 autobuses escolares, que transportan diariamente a unos 25 millones de niños. Aunque los autobuses escolares se consideran uno de los medios de transporte más seguros, se producen accidentes, y los incidentes por marcha atrás pueden ser especialmente peligrosos.
  • Los accidentes de marcha atrás causan 500 muertos y 15.000 heridos al año. El uso de consejos de seguridad en las maniobras de marcha atrás por parte de empresarios y empleados puede ayudar a prevenir accidentes en el trabajo.
  • Las muertes relacionadas con autobuses escolares representan menos del 0,1% de todas las muertes relacionadas con vehículos de motor en Canadá.
  • La mayoría de los conductores pasan menos del 1% de su tiempo de conducción en marcha atrás, sin embargo, las estadísticas nacionales indican que alrededor de una cuarta parte de todas las colisiones se producen durante la marcha atrás.
  • Los autobuses escolares están reconocidos como el medio de transporte más seguro para los niños en Canadá. Según la base de datos nacional de colisiones de Transport Canada, los niños que van al colegio en autobús están 72 veces más seguros que los que van en coche y 45 veces más seguros que los que van a pie o en bicicleta.
