Workers tending a paper manufacturing machine had to enter an narrow overhead platform above a moving press roller. One day a worker was on this 14-inch (.35-meter) wide platform structure. He was using a compressed air hose extending up from the floor level and directing the 32-inch (.8-meter) wand to blow moisture out of a tray beneath the upper felt of the press. He was caught in an inrunning nip point on the press, pulled into the rollers and fatally crushed.
Rotating machinery such as press rollers can instantly cause fatal injuries. Workers must be protected by machine guards and other safety barriers. How about your work area? Are there any unguarded pinchpoints or nip points where you could get caught and crushed?
