Aproximadamente a las 10:30 de la mañana, Mark Johnson, un experimentado marinero de cubierta, fue asignado a realizar tareas de limpieza en la cubierta del buque. Las condiciones meteorológicas eran relativamente tranquilas y el buque estaba atracado en el puerto.

Mientras limpiaba y organizaba la zona de cubierta, Mark Johnson tropezó inadvertidamente con un rollo de cuerda sin asegurar que había quedado desatendido. La caída hizo que Mark Johnson perdiera el equilibrio y trágicamente se golpeó la cabeza contra la superficie de la cubierta.

Respuesta inmediata:

Al presenciar el incidente, los miembros de la tripulación que se encontraban cerca acudieron rápidamente en ayuda de Mark Johnson, solicitando asistencia médica e iniciando los procedimientos de emergencia. El equipo médico de a bordo respondió inmediatamente, proporcionando la atención médica inicial al trabajador herido. A pesar de sus esfuerzos, se determinó que Mark Johnson había sufrido lesiones graves en la cabeza.

Se contactó inmediatamente con los servicios médicos de emergencia y los paramédicos llegaron al lugar poco después. Sin embargo, a pesar de los esfuerzos combinados del equipo médico de a bordo y de los paramédicos, Mark Johnson sucumbió a sus heridas antes de ser trasladado al centro médico más cercano.

Conclusiones de la investigación:

  1. A raíz de este trágico incidente, se llevó a cabo una investigación exhaustiva para determinar la causa raíz y los factores contribuyentes. La investigación reveló lo siguiente:
  2. Entorno de trabajo inseguro: La presencia de una bobina de cuerda sin asegurar en la cubierta, dejada sin vigilancia, creó una condición peligrosa que provocó el tropiezo y posterior caída de Mark Johnson.
  3. Medidas de seguridad inadecuadas: Durante la investigación se identificaron protocolos de seguridad insuficientes y el incumplimiento de las mejores prácticas. Se descubrió que no se habían seguido sistemáticamente las inspecciones periódicas de seguridad y los procedimientos de mantenimiento, lo que contribuyó a la presencia de peligros.
  4. Falta de concienciación y formación: El incidente puso de manifiesto la necesidad de mejorar la formación y la concienciación de la tripulación en relación con las prácticas de limpieza, los peligros potenciales y la importancia del mantenimiento.
