The good news is she wasn’t far from expert medical care. The bad news is that a Sault Ste. Marie, ON, nurse broke her left arm after tripping over a box left in a hospital hallway June 29, 2005.
Sault Area Hospital did not report her injury until five days afterwards, when the law states it must do so and submit a written report within 48 hours. The hospital has been fined $35,000, plus a 25 percent victim fine surcharge following convictions for charges of failing to ensure prescribed measures and procedures were carried out in the workplace and failing to report the injury within 48 hours.
The contents of the box and the reason for it being left on the floor were not disclosed.
