QUÉ ESTÁ EN RIESGO

El cuidado de los pacientes es una tarea práctica, impredecible y físicamente exigente. En un momento estás ayudando a alguien a sentarse y al siguiente estás evitando una caída, calmando a un paciente agitado o reaccionando ante un movimiento repentino que no esperabas. Levantar, cambiar de posición y ayudar a los pacientes supone un esfuerzo constante para el cuerpo, mientras que el estrés, el dolor, el miedo o la confusión pueden hacer que los pacientes actúen de forma agresiva sin previo aviso.

CUÁL ES EL PELIGRO

El trabajo en el sector sanitario combina el esfuerzo físico con el comportamiento humano impredecible, lo que significa que las lesiones pueden producirse de forma repentina y sin previo aviso. Una elevación rutinaria puede provocar una lesión en la espalda, y una interacción tranquila puede agravarse si el paciente se confunde, se asusta o se agita.

Esfuerzo Físico y Movimientos Repentinos del Paciente

El manejo de pacientes supone un gran esfuerzo para la espalda, los hombros y las muñecas, especialmente cuando los pacientes no pueden soportar su propio peso o se mueven de forma inesperada. Girar, estirarse o reaccionar rápidamente para evitar una caída aumenta el riesgo de sufrir distensiones, esguinces y lesiones musculoesqueléticas a largo plazo.

Situaciones en las que el Riesgo es Mayor

  • Levantar o cambiar de posición a los pacientes sin ayuda o sin el equipo adecuado
  • Pacientes que se resisten a los cuidados, pierden el equilibrio o se mueven de forma repentina
  • Trabajar en espacios reducidos como habitaciones, baños o pasillos
  • Ayudar a pacientes que están confundidos, sienten dolor o sufren estrés emocional
  • Fatiga durante turnos largos que reduce la fuerza y el tiempo de reacción

COMO PROTEGERSE

Protegerse en el ámbito sanitario significa estar preparado para lo inesperado. Los pacientes pueden moverse repentinamente, reaccionar de forma emocional o necesitar ayuda física en cualquier momento.

Utilice Prácticas Seguras para Manipular a los Pacientes

El cuidado de los pacientes implica levantarlos, cambiarlos de posición y sostenerlos con frecuencia. Mantenga la columna vertebral en posición neutra, doble las caderas y las rodillas, y sostenga a los pacientes cerca de su cuerpo cuando los mueva. Evite los giros y los movimientos bruscos, especialmente cuando un paciente cambie de peso sin previo aviso.

Utilice Equipos y el Apoyo del Equipo

Las grúas mecánicas, las sábanas deslizantes, los cinturones de transferencia y las camas ajustables reducen el esfuerzo. Si un paciente es pesado, inestable o no puede ayudar, pida ayuda. Las grúas en equipo protegen a todos y evitan lesiones causadas por manipular demasiado peso solo.

Esté Atento a los Cambios de Comportamiento

El dolor, el miedo, la confusión o la frustración pueden provocar reacciones impredecibles. Esté atento a la agitación, las voces elevadas o el lenguaje corporal tenso. Mantenga la distancia cuando sea posible, colóquese cerca de las salidas y evite situarse directamente frente a un paciente que pueda empujar o golpear.

Escuche a su Cuerpo y Reaccione a Tiempo

Las molestias son una señal de alerta temprana. Ignorar el dolor o la fatiga aumenta el riesgo de lesiones graves. Reduzca la velocidad, ajuste su postura o haga una pausa y pida ayuda antes de que la tensión se convierta en un daño a largo plazo.

Qué hacer en Situaciones de Alto Riesgo

  • Si un paciente se vuelve violento, retroceda, proteja su espacio y pida ayuda de inmediato.
  • Si siente dolor al levantar o cambiar de posición, detenga la tarea y pida ayuda.
  • Utilice la distancia o barreras si un paciente está agitado o confuso.
  • Siga los procedimientos del centro para comportamientos agresivos y notificación de incidentes.
  • Nunca intente manejar solo a un paciente violento.

CONCLUSIÓN

Cuidar de los demás nunca debe ponerse en riesgo su propia seguridad. Utilizar las técnicas adecuadas, buscar ayuda a tiempo y responder a las señales de alerta le protege tanto a usted como a sus pacientes.
