Una comunicación inadecuada provoca accidentes en el mar

Un buque que transitaba por el Canal de Suez con un práctico a bordo se suponía que navegaba por la línea central del canal, sin embargo, a medida que se desviaba de la línea central, los prácticos y el equipo del puente utilizaron timones correctivos y motores para contrarrestarlo.

Cuando el buque se había desviado considerablemente, se acercó a otro banco en el lado opuesto. La popa del buque rozó y contactó con un fondo rocoso.

Se oyó un fuerte golpe y también se sintieron vibraciones en el puente de mando y en la sala de máquinas.

La velocidad del buque disminuyó y volvió a aumentar. Todo el personal del buque notó las vibraciones. La sala de máquinas llamó al puente para confirmar si todo estaba en orden.

Los dos oficiales de guardia confirmaron con el piloto si todo estaba en orden, a lo que el piloto respondió afirmativamente.

El buque había recuperado la velocidad y reanudó el tránsito por el canal.

El oficial superior de guardia no llamó al capitán ni lo discutió posteriormente con él.

Sin embargo, por debajo de la línea de flotación, la parte delantera del casco sufrió daños, por lo que su resistencia se redujo considerablemente en la zona del impacto.

Había una ligera deformación, pero por debajo de la línea de flotación. El buque cruzó el canal y mientras cargaba en el puerto de carga, se oyó de nuevo un gran estruendo, y el oficial de guardia notó que corría agua en los tanques de lastre nº 1,2,3 del costado de babor.

Debido a las continuas tensiones en un casco dañado, deformado y fatigado, la zona débil se desmoronó y cedió.
