Forklift operators will need to go through a documented forklift evaluation every three years. As a best practice, provide refresher forklift safety training as part of this evaluation.  Remember to provide certified forklift safety training for any newly hired employee before they operate one of your company’s forklifts.

Refresher forklift safety training is required for certified operators if any of the following should occur:

1. The operator has been observed to operate the forklift in an unsafe manner.
2. The operator has been involved in an accident or near-miss incident.
3. The operator has received an evaluation that reveals that the operator is not operating the forklift safely.
4. The operator is assigned to drive a different type of forklift.
5. A condition in the workplace changes in a manner that could affect the safe operation of the forklift.
