QUÉ ESTÁ EN RIESGO

La fatiga puede afectar a los trabajadores mucho antes de que se den cuenta. Los turnos largos, el trabajo nocturno y las tareas exigentes reducen el estado de alerta y ralentizan el tiempo de reacción, lo que convierte pequeños errores en incidentes graves. Cuando los trabajadores se esfuerzan a pesar del agotamiento, el riesgo de lesiones, errores en el equipo y toma de decisiones erróneas aumenta rápidamente. Anticiparse a la fatiga es esencial para mantener la seguridad.

CUÁL ES EL PELIGRO

La fatiga es peligrosa porque cambia el funcionamiento del cerebro y el cuerpo, a menudo sin que te des cuenta. Cuando estás cansado, tu capacidad de juicio se ve afectada, tu tiempo de reacción se ralentiza y tu capacidad para detectar peligros disminuye. Esa combinación hace que las tareas cotidianas sean más arriesgadas y convierte los momentos rutinarios en incidentes graves.

Reacciones Más Lentas y Malas Decisiones

La fatiga afecta a las mismas partes del cerebro que el alcohol. Reaccionas más lentamente, pasas por alto las señales de advertencia, calculas mal las distancias y te cuesta mantener la concentración. Esto hace que manejar maquinaria, conducir, escalar o realizar trabajos minuciosos sea mucho más peligroso.

Micro-sueño y Pérdida de Conciencia

Un trabajador cansado puede caer en un micro-sueño durante unos segundos sin darse cuenta. En ese breve lapso de tiempo, un vehículo puede desviarse, una máquina puede ponerse en marcha o un trabajador puede entrar en una zona de peligro. Incluso lapsos breves pueden provocar lesiones graves.

El Trabajo por Turnos y los Horarios Irregulares Aumentan el Riesgo

Los turnos de noche, las madrugadas, las largas jornadas, las horas extras y los horarios rotativos alteran los ciclos del sueño. Cuando el cuerpo trabaja en contra de su ritmo natural, la fatiga se instala más rápidamente y es más difícil de controlar, incluso si “te sientes bien”.

COMO PROTEGERSE

Para controlar la fatiga, lo primero es reconocer que el cansancio afecta a la seguridad tanto como cualquier peligro físico. La fatiga se acumula lentamente y, cuando “te sientes agotado”, es posible que tu tiempo de reacción y tu capacidad de decisión ya se hayan visto comprometidos. El objetivo es adelantarse a ella, no ignorarla.

Da Prioridad al Descanso y al Sueño Regular

Un sueño de calidad es la mejor defensa contra la fatiga. Intenta mantener un horario de sueño regular siempre que sea posible, evita las comidas pesadas y las pantallas antes de acostarte, y date tiempo suficiente para recuperarte entre turnos. Tu cuerpo rinde mejor cuando descansa de forma predecible.

Adopta Hábitos Inteligentes Durante la Jornada Laboral

Los descansos breves, un ritmo constante y mantenerse hidratado ayudan a mantener el estado de alerta. Escucha a tu cuerpo cuando empieces a perder la concentración. Si notas que tus reacciones son más lentas o que te estás “desconectando”, es una señal de que debes resetearte antes de continuar.

Qué Hacer Para Reducir la Fatiga en el Trabajo

  • Tómate descansos cortos y regulares en lugar de esforzarte hasta sentirte agotado.
  • Rota las tareas siempre que sea posible para evitar el esfuerzo mental o físico repetitivo.
  • Da a conocer si tu carga de trabajo o tu horario te provocan niveles de fatiga peligrosos.
  • Mantente hidratado y come de forma equilibrada para mantener la energía.
  • Evita depender de la cafeína al final del turno.
  • Comprueba cómo se encuentran los compañeros de trabajo que muestran signos de agotamiento.

Planifica la Fatiga en los Turnos Nocturnos o Rotativos

Los turnos nocturnos y los horarios irregulares requieren una preparación adicional. Adáptate lentamente cuando cambien los turnos, utiliza la exposición a la luz para mantenerte alerta y programa las tareas más exigentes cuando estés mentalmente despierto. Reconoce que el trabajo nocturno exige más a tu cuerpo, así que incorpora más tiempo de recuperación antes y después.

Reconocer Cuándo Detenerse y Pedir Ayuda

Si te sientes demasiado cansado para pensar con claridad o mantener una percepción segura, detenerte es la opción más prudente. La fatiga no es un signo de debilidad. Es una señal de que tu cuerpo necesita recuperarse para mantenerte seguro. Pedir ayuda o una breve pausa te protege a ti y a todos los que te rodean.

CONCLUSIÓN

La fatiga cambia tu forma de pensar, moverte y reaccionar, a menudo sin previo aviso. Descansar, tomar descansos y decir cuando te sientes agotado son acciones sencillas que evitan errores graves. Cuando tu cuerpo necesita recuperarse, escucharle es la opción más segura que puedes tomar.
