ESTADÍSTICAS

  • Las caídas a un nivel inferior han seguido siendo la principal causa de muertes en la construcción a lo largo del tiempo. De 389 caídas mortales en 2017, 367 (94%) fueron a un nivel inferior. Si bien constituyen solo un pequeño porcentaje del total de víctimas mortales, los resbalones, tropiezos y caídas al mismo nivel fueron responsables de un mayor porcentaje de víctimas mortales en 2017 en comparación con 2011.
  • El sector de la construcción experimentó más caídas mortales a un nivel inferior que cualquier otro sector importante. En 2017, más de la mitad (51%, 367 del total de 713) de las caídas mortales a un nivel inferior en todas las industrias ocurrieron en la construcción.
  • Aunque el número de caídas mortales a un nivel inferior aumentó después de la Recesión, la tasa se mantuvo relativamente estable. La tasa aumentó ligeramente después de 2011 (3 muertes por 100.000 equivalentes a tiempo completo (ETC)), y se mantuvo en 3,6 por 100.000 ETC de 2014 a 2016 antes de disminuir a 3,4 por 100.000 ETC en el 2017.
  • El riesgo de caídas mortales varió entre los subgrupos de la construcción. De 2011 a 2017, el subsector de la industria de la construcción con más caídas mortales a un nivel inferior fue el de los contratistas de techos, con 512 eventos de caídas mortales, seguido de la construcción de edificios residenciales (365 muertes) y la pintura y el revestimiento de paredes (182 muertes).
