  • Riesgo de Volcadura: Los elevadores de tijera y plumas pueden volcarse sobre terreno irregular, pendientes o suelo blando — pequeños defectos como baches o desagües pueden causar un vuelco catastrófico cuando la plataforma está extendida.
  • Caídas desde la Plataforma: Los trabajadores caen al trepar barandas para alcanzar algo, al ser golpeados por otro vehículo o cuando la plataforma es sacudida; pararse sobre las barandas es un factor principal.
  • Contacto con Líneas Eléctricas: Los elevadores tipo pluma cerca de líneas energizadas pueden electrocutar a los operadores y al personal en tierra; OSHA requiere una distancia mínima de 10 pies de las líneas de hasta 50 kV.
  • Aplastamiento y Atrapamiento: Los operadores pueden quedar atrapados entre la baranda superior y las vigas aéreas, viguetas o tuberías al elevar la plataforma sin mirar hacia arriba.

ESTADÍSTICAS

  • La Oficina de Estadísticas Laborales de EE.UU. reporta un promedio de aproximadamente 26 muertes de trabajadores por año relacionadas con elevadores aéreos, principalmente por caídas, volcaduras y electrocuciones.
  • Las 10 normas más citadas de OSHA incluyeron Protección contra Caídas (29 CFR 1926.501) como la norma más infringida cada año del AF 2020 al AF 2024.
  • El Informe Global de Seguridad de la IPAF identificó las caídas desde la plataforma como la principal causa de incidentes mortales con PEMP en América del Norte entre 2020 y 2023.
