QUÉ ESTÁ EN RIESGO

Los Trabajar en cámaras frigoríficas o congeladoras no solo es incómodo, sino que también altera el funcionamiento del cuerpo y la mente. El frío endurece los músculos, entumece los dedos y ralentiza el tiempo de reacción, mientras que los pisos helados y los espacios reducidos dejan poco margen para el error. Un momento de pérdida de agarre o equilibrio puede provocar rápidamente esguinces, resbalones, congelaciones o lesiones graves, especialmente cuando se levantan objetos, se tiene prisa o se está concentrado en entrar y salir lo más rápido posible.

CUÁL ES EL PELIGRO

El peligro del trabajo en cámaras frigoríficas y congeladores es que el frío extremo reduce silenciosamente la capacidad de reaccionar y protegerse. Las bajas temperaturas entumecen las manos, endurecen los músculos y ralentizan los movimientos, lo que aumenta la probabilidad de resbalones, caídas y errores de manipulación al trabajar sobre superficies duras y heladas.

Exposición Acumulada al Frío

Las entradas breves pueden parecer manejables, pero la exposición repetida se acumula. Con el tiempo, el estrés por frío, el entumecimiento y la fatiga aumentan la posibilidad de cometer errores que pueden provocar lesiones graves.

Cómo Afecta el Frío a su Cuerpo y a su Conciencia

La reducción del flujo sanguíneo puede disminuir la fuerza de agarre y la coordinación, mientras que los voluminosos equipos de protección personal para climas fríos pueden limitar el movimiento y la visibilidad. A medida que aumenta el tiempo en el congelador, la fatiga y el estrés por frío se acumulan, lo que aumenta el riesgo de distensiones, esguinces y reacciones tardías durante las tareas rutinarias.

Situaciones de Alto Riesgo en el Trabajo en Cámaras Frigoríficas

  • Suelos resbaladizos o helados que aumentan el riesgo de resbalones y caídas
  • Manipulación de cargas pesadas o incómodas con menor agarre y destreza
  • Entrada y salida rápida de los congeladores para limitar la exposición al frío
  • Condensación o acumulación de hielo cerca de puertas y pasillos
  • Pasillos estrechos, estanterías y visibilidad limitada

COMO PROTEGERSE

Para mantenerse seguro en las áreas de almacenamiento en frío y congelación, es necesario planificar con anticipación, reducir la velocidad y prestar atención a cómo el frío afecta a su cuerpo. Las pequeñas decisiones tomadas a tiempo pueden prevenir resbalones, estrés por frío y lesiones graves.

Señales de Advertencia que no Debe Ignorar

  • Entumecimiento u hormigueo en los dedos de las manos, las manos o los dedos de los pies
  • Pérdida de fuerza en las manos o caída de objetos
  • Movimientos rígidos o torpes
  • Temblores o fatiga inusual

Ropa y Equipo para el Frío

Lleve ropa aislante en capas que le permita moverse, mantenga los guantes secos para conservar el agarre y utilice calzado antideslizante diseñado para suelos helados. Cambie inmediatamente los guantes o calcetines mojados y nunca trabaje en congeladores con un equipo de protección personal inadecuado para el frío.

Qué Hacer si el Frío Empieza a Afectarle

Si siente entumecimiento en las manos, su fuerza de agarre se debilita o sus movimientos se vuelven rígidos o torpes, detenga la tarea y salga de la zona fría para entrar en calor. Reemplace los guantes o la ropa mojados, recupere el control y la sensibilidad completos, y solo regrese cuando pueda manejar cargas de forma segura y mantener el equilibrio. Seguir trabajando a pesar del estrés por frío o el entumecimiento aumenta considerablemente el riesgo de resbalones, caídas y lesiones graves.

Muévase más Despacio de lo que Cree que Necesita

El frío endurece los músculos y reduce el equilibrio. Dé pasos cortos y controlados, evite giros bruscos y mantenga las cargas cerca del cuerpo. Salir apresuradamente del congelador es una de las principales causas de resbalones y esguinces.

Limite el Tiempo Dentro del Congelador

Planifique su tarea antes de entrar para no estar deambulando o buscando en el frío. Las entradas más cortas y con un propósito reducen el estrés por frío, la fatiga y la posibilidad de cometer errores causados por las manos entumecidas o las reacciones lentas.

Corrija el Peligro o Detenga el Trabajo

La acumulación de hielo, los pisos resbaladizos, las salidas bloqueadas o los equipos que son difíciles de usar con guantes deben corregirse de inmediato. Si no se puede arreglar de inmediato, detenga el trabajo y reporte el problema.

CONCLUSIÓN

El trabajo en cámaras frigoríficas y congeladores puede parecer rutinario, pero el frío aumenta silenciosamente el riesgo con cada minuto que pasas dentro. Reduce la velocidad, escucha a tu cuerpo y avisa a tiempo, porque prevenir el estrés por frío y los resbalones siempre es más fácil que recuperarse de una lesión.
