En esta sección se abordan los riesgos laborales del síndrome del túnel carpiano, incluidas las causas y los síntomas.

Visión general

Causado por un nervio mediano comprimido o apretado, el túnel carpiano afecta a la región del antebrazo en la mano/muñeca. La irritación hace que el túnel carpiano se restrinja causando a un individuo dolor, debilidad/entumecimiento en la mano a la región del antebrazo. La mano dominante de un individuo es más susceptible, al igual que las mujeres, a desarrollar el túnel carpiano.

Causas

El Túnel Carpiano afecta a muchos empleados en una serie de industrias, sin embargo, los que están en la línea de montaje o en la entrada de datos o administrativos corren un riesgo elevado en comparación con otros. Hay varias causas asociadas con el túnel carpiano (entre otras):

  • Traumatismo/ Lesión de la mano o la muñeca
  • Estrés en el trabajo
  • Uso consistente de herramientas vibratorias
  • Artritis reumatoide
  • Retención de fluidos

Síntomas

Lo más común es que los individuos informen que los síntomas son de naturaleza leve y luego crecen en severidad gradualmente a través del tiempo. Los dedos pulgar, índice y medio suelen ser los primeros en experimentar los síntomas. Síntomas comunes del túnel carpiano:

  • Sensación de hinchazón en los dedos o las articulaciones
  • Pérdida de sensibilidad/entumecimiento
  • Disminución de la fuerza de agarre
  • Disminución de la movilidad/funcionalidad de los dedos
