¿QUE ESTÁ EN RIESGO?

Ya lo han oído antes y lo volverán a oír porque es un hecho: los cinturones de seguridad salvan vidas. Un alto porcentaje de todas las muertes relacionadas con el trabajo cada año son causadas por accidentes automovilísticos. Muchas de estas muertes podrían haberse evitado si los conductores y pasajeros de estos vehículos hubieran llevado puesto el cinturón de seguridad.

¿CUÁL ES EL PELIGRO?

Las industrias con el mayor número de muertes por tráfico son el transporte, los servicios públicos, los camiones y los servicios gubernamentales. Pero cualquier compañía que tenga empleados conduciendo en el negocio puede experimentar estas tragedias. La clave para la prevención es la conciencia de los empleados y el seguimiento de las reglas.

EJEMPLO

Aquí hay  una historia real de un trabajador que aprendió el valor de usar su cinturón de seguridad:

Este trabajador entregaba paquetes en una ciudad a altas horas de la noche y decidió usar la autopista. Justo cuando se detuvo en la autopista para salir de la ciudad, notó que los faros se dirigían directamente hacia él. Intentó evitar el coche que venía en dirección contraria, pero falló al chocar de frente con el suyo. El conductor sin cinturón del otro coche fue lanzado a través de ambos parabrisas y murió, pero en el asiento trasero el trabajador con cinturón sólo sufrió moretones cuando el cinturón de seguridad se le apretó en el pecho.

COMO PROTEGERSE

Tenga en cuenta estos puntos de seguridad cuando conduzca o monte en un vehículo de la empresa:

  • ¿Ha sido entrenado apropiadamente para conducir el vehículo en particular? Si no, hable con su supervisor. Debe tener el entrenamiento requerido antes de ponerse al volante de cualquier vehículo, ya sea el camión de la compañía o el montacargas de la compañía.
  • ¿Se le proporciona una formación periódica de actualización? Pida más entrenamiento si no está seguro de algo relacionado con su vehículo.
  • ¿Existe una política de cinturones de seguridad obligatoria además de las leyes de cinturones de seguridad? Acostúmbrese a usar el cinturón de seguridad dentro o fuera del trabajo. Antes de que se dé cuenta, estará atado al cinturón de seguridad sin siquiera pensarlo.
  • ¿Hay un programa de control de velocidad forzado? Si no está seguro, pregunte.
  • ¿Está prohibido el uso del teléfono móvil mientras se conduce?
  • ¿Se dan advertencias sobre el clima y el tráfico antes de salir a trabajar?
  • ¿Son razonables las horas de operación y los horarios de despacho? Si cree que no lo son, depende de usted presentar sus preocupaciones.

CONCLUSIÓN

Finalmente, ¿entiende y se preocupa por las razones para usar el cinturón de seguridad?  Los cinturones de seguridad están en su vehículo por una razón: para protegerle. Ponerse el cinturón de seguridad toma un segundo de su tiempo. Ese segundo podría muy bien salvar su vida.
