OSHA inspected a Gadsden, AL jobsite as part of a regional emphasis program focused on reducing falls in the construction industry. Fast-J Steel Erectors was cited for serious violations alleging failure to conduct frequent and regular inspections of the jobsite and failure to ensure that employees wore protective headgear. Repeat violations for which the company was cited include a lack of fall protection on the structure, a lack of fall protection while using aerial lifts and allowing employees to climb onto and over railings while engaged in steel erection activities. Magna Steel Erectors was cited for four alleged serious violations, including the use of unsafe electrical equipment, a lack of fall protection on aerial lifts, improper installation of a fall protection system and failure to secure the building’s framework before placing construction loads on the steel. Fast-J is facing $105,750 in proposed fines, while Magna is facing $18,000 in proposed fines.
