QUÉ ESTÁ EN RIESGO

A medida que los robots y los sistemas basados en inteligencia artificial se vuelven más comunes en la fabricación, la logística, la atención médica y los lugares de trabajo cotidianos, aumentan los riesgos de una interacción insegura entre humanos y máquinas. Los robots pueden moverse repentinamente, aplicar una fuerza tremenda o malinterpretar el comportamiento humano si los sensores fallan o la programación es incompleta. Un solo movimiento inesperado puede provocar lesiones graves. Trabajar con máquinas impulsadas por IA requiere toda la atención, una comunicación clara y el respeto de las zonas de seguridad designadas, ya que incluso un descuido momentáneo cerca de una máquina que no reduce la velocidad ni se distrae puede tener consecuencias que cambian la vida.

CUÁL ES EL PELIGRO

Los robots no se cansan, no se distraen ni se emocionan, pero los humanos sí. Y cuando las personas trabajan cerca de máquinas que se mueven rápidamente, aplican mucha fuerza o toman decisiones automatizadas, incluso un pequeño error o un momento de desalineación puede convertirse en una lesión grave. El peligro proviene de la rapidez con la que reaccionan estos sistemas, de su fuerza y de su limitada capacidad para detectar el comportamiento humano impredecible.

Movimientos Inesperados o Repentinos

Los robots pueden acelerar, girar o extender un brazo sin previo aviso. Si un trabajador está demasiado cerca, incluso un pequeño movimiento puede golpearlo, aplastarlo o atraparlo contra el equipo.

Fallos de los Sensores o de Detección

Los sistemas de IA dependen de cámaras, sensores láser, alfombrillas de presión y detección de proximidad, todos los cuales pueden fallar o malinterpretar la presencia humana.

  • El polvo, la iluminación, el ruido o las superficies reflectantes pueden interferir con los sensores.
  • Un robot puede «pensar» que un área está despejada incluso cuando hay una persona presente.
  • Los fallos de software pueden retrasar o bloquear las órdenes de parada.

Errores Humanos y Comportamientos Arriesgados

Muchos incidentes no se producen por culpa del robot, sino porque los trabajadores subestiman el peligro. Entrar en una célula robótica sin bloqueo, saltarse las protecciones de seguridad o dar por sentado que el robot los «ve» pone a los trabajadores en peligro directo.

Decisiones Impredecibles de la IA

Las máquinas impulsadas por IA pueden ajustar la velocidad, la trayectoria o la acción basándose en datos en tiempo real. Cuando los seres humanos no anticipan estos cambios, aumenta la posibilidad de colisiones o cuasi accidentes.

COMO PROTEGERSE

Para mantenerse seguro cerca de robots y sistemas impulsados por IA, primero hay que comprender cómo se comportan, cómo detectan a las personas y cuáles son sus limitaciones. Los robots siguen una programación, no su instinto, por lo que su seguridad depende de que mantenga movimientos predecibles, controlados y cautelosos cerca de ellos. Trate a cada robot como si pudiera activarse en cualquier momento.

Respete las Barreras de Seguridad y los Procedimientos de Bloqueo.

Las protecciones físicas, las vallas, los enclavamientos y los bloqueos/etiquetados existen por una razón: mantener a los seres humanos fuera de peligro.

  • Nunca entre en una célula robótica sin la autorización adecuada.
  • Bloquee siempre los equipos eléctricos antes de realizar tareas de mantenimiento o resolución de problemas.

Manténgase Visible y Predecible

Los robots dependen de sensores, y los sensores no interpretan las vacilaciones ni los movimientos repentinos de la misma manera que los humanos.

  • Evite los cambios rápidos de dirección.
  • Permanezca dentro de los pasillos designados.
  • Haga que sus movimientos sean deliberados y predecibles.

Evite hacer Suposiciones Sobre la IA.

Los robots pueden parecer «inteligentes», pero no pueden comprender completamente el comportamiento humano. No dé por sentado que el robot:

  • Le ve.
  • Se detendrá por usted.
  • Reducirá la velocidad si se acerca.

Informe inmediatamente de cualquier mal funcionamiento o comportamiento anormal.

Si observa movimientos inusuales, errores en los sensores, respuestas retrasadas o paradas repetidas, considérelo un riesgo grave e infórmelo antes de continuar con el trabajo.

CONCLUSIÓN

Los robots y los sistemas de inteligencia artificial pueden hacer que el trabajo sea más rápido, seguro y eficiente, pero solo cuando las personas entienden cómo trabajar con ellos. Estas máquinas no toman decisiones basadas en el criterio personal y no reaccionan ante el peligro como lo hacen los seres humanos.
