  • Peligro por Presión de Aire: Las líneas de aire estándar de fábrica operan entre 80 y 120 psi —una presión suficiente para romper un tímpano, causar lesiones oculares graves o hacer que el aire penetre en el cuerpo a través de una pequeña abrasión en la piel.
  • Riesgo de Embolia Gaseosa: Cuando el aire comprimido ingresa al torrente sanguíneo a través de una lesión en la piel, las burbujas de aire viajan hacia el corazón. Si una de ellas llega al corazón, puede ser mortal —y este peligro existe incluso a presiones muy por debajo de los niveles normales de operación.

  • Peligro por Latigazo de la Manguera: Una manguera de aire a presión que se desconecta o se rompe puede azotar violentamente, golpeando a los trabajadores con suficiente fuerza como para causar fracturas, laceraciones y lesiones fatales en la cabeza.
  • Daño Auditivo: El uso prolongado de herramientas neumáticas, como martillos neumáticos, llaves de impacto y amoladoras, expone a los trabajadores a niveles de ruido que pueden causar pérdida auditiva permanente e irreversible.
  • Desechos que Salen Disparados: El uso de aire comprimido para limpiar equipos o ropa desprende partículas a alta velocidad. Sin protecciones contra las virutas ni el equipo de protección personal (EPP) adecuado, estas partículas se convierten en proyectiles capaces de penetrar el ojo y causar daño permanente a la vista.

  • Las pistolas neumáticas para clavos son responsables de aproximadamente 37 000 visitas a salas de emergencia en los Estados Unidos cada año, de las cuales el 60 por ciento están relacionadas con el trabajo, según el NIOSH. CDC
  • Las lesiones causadas por clavadoras hospitalizan a más trabajadores de la construcción que cualquier otra lesión relacionada con herramientas en EE.
