Esta imagen muestra a un técnico de servicio cruzando una estación de bombeo remota al final de la jornada. La puerta está cerrada a sus espaldas, el estacionamiento está vacío y el único sonido es el zumbido de los equipos. Ha realizado esta revisión cientos de veces: medidores, válvulas, un vistazo al panel. Su teléfono muestra una sola barra de señal. La radio de la camioneta está demasiado lejos. La ventana de registro con la central se cerró hace una hora, pero el sistema solo marca los registros faltantes a la mañana siguiente. El técnico pisa una rejilla resbaladiza por el líquido hidráulico y cae de bruces, golpeándose la cabeza contra el riel. No hay ningún compañero de trabajo a quien llamar. No hay nadie que lo vigile. No hay nadie a quien se pueda llamar a gritos desde la vía de acceso.

El trabajo en solitario no se anuncia. La rejilla no te advierte que está resbaladiza, el teléfono no devuelve la llamada cuando se pierde la señal y el sitio no deja de ser peligroso solo porque la tarea sea rutinaria. Un trabajador en un sitio tranquilo, un registro de presencia perdido, un segundo de distracción, y una inspección de rutina se convierte en una investigación de fatalidad. Establece un horario de registro de presencia con confirmación bidireccional verificada. Lleva contigo un dispositivo de comunicación que funcione con energía de respaldo. Informa brevemente sobre tu ruta, hora estimada de llegada y última tarea antes de quedarte sin comunicación. Trata cada tarea en solitario como si nadie supiera dónde estás, porque durante unos minutos críticos, nadie lo sabrá. La obra desierta no perdona la complacencia.
