Un trabajador cayó al mar desde una escalera de pilotaje.

El 16 de febrero de 2021, un trabajador desembarcaba de un buque para embarcar en una lancha de pasajeros a través de una escala piloto. Mientras descendía por la escalera piloto, el trabajador cayó al mar. El trabajador fue rescatado y trasladado al hospital, donde posteriormente fue declarado muerto. El Ministerio de Trabajo ha iniciado la investigación del accidente.

El sector debe llevar a cabo una evaluación de riesgos exhaustiva de todas las actividades laborales relacionadas con el embarque y desembarque de buques. Deben tomarse precauciones para evitar que los trabajadores caigan al agua. Cuando sea posible, seleccione siempre un método más seguro (por ejemplo, el uso de pasarelas en los buques) para el embarque o desembarque. Si es necesario utilizar escaleras de pilotaje, asegúrese de que los trabajadores son físicamente aptos para la tarea y tienen la suficiente confianza antes de permitirles proceder. Deben establecerse procedimientos de trabajo seguros para guiar a los trabajadores en el uso seguro de las escaleras piloto. Los empleadores de trabajadores expuestos al riesgo de caer al agua deben proporcionar chalecos salvavidas adecuados para mantener a los trabajadores a flote en caso de que caigan al agua. Los trabajadores deben ser capacitados sobre la importancia y la forma correcta de ponerse el chaleco salvavidas. Instruya a los trabajadores para que no intenten embarcar o desembarcar de un buque cuando las condiciones no sean favorables (por ejemplo, lluvia intensa, vientos fuertes y/o aguas agitadas). Si las condiciones son buenas, sólo se podrá embarcar o desembarcar cuando la lancha de pasajeros esté en posición.
