STATS AND FACTS
Snakebites kill at least 80,000 people per year and probably more
- Snakebite took the lives of up to 400,000 victims between 2014 and 2016, making it almost 40 times deadlier than the Ebola virus.
Most snakebites occur in developing countries
- Even a bite from a “harmless” snake can cause infection or allergic reaction in some people.
- If you are bitten by a rattlesnake, you’ll begin to see symptoms immediately, but your symptoms will worsen over time. Ideally, you’ll reach medical help within 30 minutes of being bitten. If the bite is left untreated, your bodily functions will break down over a period of 2 or 3 days and the bite may result in severe organ damage or death.
