Los accidentes químicos se producen cuando:

  1. No hay identificadores del producto, como la marca, la sustancia química, el nombre común, el genérico y el comercial del producto, para informar a los usuarios de qué sustancia se trata. 
  2. Falta una palabra de señalización (ya sea Peligro o Advertencia) que alerte y muestre la gravedad de un peligro potencial para el usuario.
  3. Falta la(s) indicación(es) de peligro que describa(n) la naturaleza peligrosa de un producto.
  4. No hay ninguna declaración de precaución que describa las medidas para prevenir o minimizar los efectos de un peligro.
  5. No se entienden los pictogramas. Los pictogramas son imágenes dentro de un cuadrado rojo que dan a los usuarios una idea del tipo de peligro de un producto.

ESTADÍSTICAS

  • Las muertes por exposición a sustancias químicas peligrosas aumentaron un 29% entre 2016 y 2019
  • Las muertes por exposición a sustancias químicas peligrosas en todo el mundo aumentaron un 29% en 2019 con respecto a las que se produjeron en 2016, según las últimas estimaciones de la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS).
  • Dos millones de personas murieron por exposición a sustancias químicas peligrosas en 2019, frente a 1,56 millones en 2016, según el organismo sanitario mundial. 
  • Casi el 10% de todos los trabajadores que pierden la vida por enfermedades o lesiones laborales mueren como consecuencia de la exposición a sustancias químicas. Esto supone unas 60.000 muertes, que se suman a las aproximadamente 860.000 enfermedades derivadas de la exposición a sustancias químicas en el lugar de trabajo cada año.
